Braid-n-Curl with no Heat - The Results!!

This video is part 2 of my Braid-n-Curl with no Heat technique.  I maintained this style similar to my other braid-n-curl video (using Lottabody) by pulling my hair back with a satin scarf and placing a bonnet over the scarf.

I'm becoming more adventurous with my hair and not as neurotic about wearing protective styles as I was last year.  I'm learning to love my hair more and let her loose sometime.

Braid-n-Curl with no Heat

I recently finished a video on a braid-out that is really more of a braid-n-curl.  I used all natural products and spiral rods to give my hair more body and have plenty of bounce.  I absolutely love the results! There are 2 videos, with part 1 showing my process and part 2 with the results.

To achieve this style, I decided to not use Lottabody since I wanted to see how my hair will last without a product specializing in hold.  My main product was Shea Moisture's Curl Enhancing Smoothie.  This product was great with my daughter's hair so I was hoping it would work for me and it absolutely did.

My hair is incredibly soft and has a ton of bounce and movement.  I layered my products in the following way:
  • Water for moisture
  • KCKT as a leave-in
  • Curl Enhancing Smoothie for moisture and shine
  • Very light amount of coconut oil for my ends
I must say the one thing I'm worried about is the hold.  I can already tell my hair is very, very soft so I know my curls will not last 6 days like the Lottabody allowed.  I plan on re-braiding my hair every other day to maintain the style and to prevent daily manipulation of my hair.

Do I have OCD?

I don't believe I do . . . ok maybe a very, slight mild case.  Lol!!!  I have found when I absolutely am in love with an item, I purchase it in bulk.  My favs are hair accessories, coffee beans, lip gloss, and dare I say SHOES.  My love of shoes is a completely different topic and would take waaaayyyy too much time :~).

Today I decided to stop by TJ Maxx to see if they had my Giovanni Smooth as Silk Conditioner.  Well they did and I purchased the last 2 on the shelf.  Yah for me!  I also purchased one 50/50 Hydration Shampoo since my family and I are using it more frequently.  Between my daughter swim classes and my hubby starting to use the Giovanni line, I probably need to start buying the shampoo in bulk as well.

Any who, I was almost panicked when I realized I ONLY have one full bottle of conditioner left.  How lucky am I that I stopped by the Maxx :~).

How do I become a Giovanni sponsor?  Lol!  No, seriously how do I accomplish that task.  I want free products since I <3 Giovanni's product line.  Giovanni, email me :~)

So what products/items do you obsess about?

Finger Detangling

A while ago, I spoke about the importance of finger detangling.  Well, I decided to show you how I finger detangle in my recent video "Finger Detangling."  Wow, what a title :~) Lol!

I try to keep my demonstrations simple and my videos short.  I usually use a very light oil to finger detangle, such as olive oil or grapeseed, since I don't want product build-up on my hair.  In this video, I was prepping my hair for shampooing so I finger detangled, shampooed, conditioned, detangled with a comb very lightly, and styled.

A key item to remember: if you take time to finger detangle you should remove majority of your shedded hair and save yourself a tremendous amount of time when detangling during the conditioning process.

The Versatility of 2-Strand Twists

I've been wearing 2-strand twists for a little over 18 months.  It's a great protective style because it aids in you caring for your hair relative to length retention but most importantly for maintaining healthy hair.  However, I do get bored with the same look so I love to change it up while keeping my protective style.

I decided to use my Lock Loops to add some cute spirals to my hair and I love the look.  Today, I decided to twist my hair out and I have beautiful, bouncy curls due to the Lock Loops.  Shake it, shake it!!!

2-strand twists benefit my hair by:
v      Protecting my hair from the elements, including me lol
v      Holding moisture
v      Ease of oiling
v      Length retention

I find with my hair the 2-strand twists really aid in keeping my hair moisturized and absorbing oil.  I can heavily moisturize my hair with a twist-out and by the end of then night that moisture will be gone!  Also, I love oiling my hair with coconut oil to prevent dryness and because I love the smell of coconut.  I use an applicator bottle to dispense the oil on my hair and of course with the 2-strand twists, oiling is a breeze.

So if you're bored with the same 'ole look to your twists, try spiraling, braiding, or coiling them.  Each of those styling techniques will give your twists a different look for a different you.

Painting with a Twist!

I had a very enlightening experience this past weekend which really tested my creativity.  I attended a 'Painting with a Twist' session with a group of my girlfriends that was extremely fun and artistic.

By no means am I associated with this company but I most certainly will be going back.  The painting session consisted of:
  • An artist to direct you on what colors to use for your canvas
  • A studio designated solely for your group
  • Tons of fun and laughs

The "twist" side of the ordeal is you bring your drink and food of choice.  Since there was plenty of ladies there, we had an array of food and a variety of drinks – there was water too!  Lol.

The company site is: www.paintingwithatwist.com.  They also have family days, children activities, birthday celebrations, and group functions of all kinds.

Check out my video and how I was able to achieve my splash of wine painting.
